National Youth Camp in Kalawewa, Anuraadapura, of National Fisheries Solidarity Movement

Sharing experiences of youth participated in the camp which was organized from 13^th to 15^th of July 2017 in Youth Training center in Vigithapura, Kalawewa being participated more than 62 youth participants from Kurunegala, Galle, Matara, Kalutara, Puttlam, Polonnaruwa, Jaffna, Mannar,Ampara, Trincomale,Killinochchi and Gampaha districts representing the Youth Movement for Environmental and Better Social Change in Sri Lanka as well as there were some members representing the youth society of Philippine and France.

NAFSO has helped a fishing community to take legal action against a proposal to build a five-star hotel on a mangrove where fish spawn."We are not against hotels, because they bring tourism and income. But 3,000 families and 15,000 fishermen use this lagoon and all of them could be affected by the developments. Only 200 would be employed by the hotel. At the present situation we are continuing our campaign with small scale fishermen to urge the government to take legal action against Destructive Fishing Practices around the coastal areas of Sri Lanka.
